Charlie, Russ, Kim, John, Peter and I will tell you about the experience of receiving our first “Times” in a road race or marathon.
They say there’s a first time for everything; and those first times can be the source of apprehension and anxiety. Think about the first time you road a bicycle, or the first time you drove a car. In the days leading up to those moments, you might have experienced some concern or trepidation: because whenever you experience something new, which is unknown to you: you can’t be quite certain of the outcome.
But if you take into account the testimony of others: if you listen to their stories and the tone of their voices when they relate to you the experience of their first times: you can build up confidence in yourself and how you might experience this new thing.
And for those of us who are runners and have run our second and hundredth races…consider today the experience you had at your first: and how that changed you for the better and made you the runner and person you are today.
