In a way, we’re all Time Lords…regenerating from birth to old age in bodies and minds that are ever changing. And if it’s true that we’re Time Lords, it’s important for us to consider some of the great metaphors for time:
Time is a river, flowing forward as we navigate in our canoes, avoiding fallen trees and glacial rubble; paddling away from the past and towards our future.
Time is a thread, a linear one dimensional fabric of our history, where any single point in it’s length is but an infinitesimal moment surrounded before and behind by the vast unknown.
Time is a predator, the thing that devours everything in existence. It rusts iron, grinds stones to sand, and casts the universe into entropy leading to it’s ultimate end in thermodynamic heat death. Time eats all.
Time is an arrow, with all its implied fate and momentum….released from its bow it cannot be called back, nor can its course be changed. The arrow, like time, moves quickly and what will be, will be.
Time is a race, where the more you achieve the more you have left to achieve. Life is short, but it should be long enough: and it’s only when you focus on the race of time can you ever hope to find a way to win.
But most of all, and the reason I produced this episode today: on the Feast of the Nativity; is because:
Time is a gift; and I wanted to give this gift to you today: The reminder that time is a gift that you need to savor.
